Dark night
Proyecto para una intervención. Künstlerhaus. Großer Saal / Ringgalerie. Salzburgo 2012

Dark Night was a concept for a dual intervention developed during my residency at the Künstlerhaus in Salzburg in the spring of 2012. The project consisted of two mural drawings, created using the frottage technique, which would have completely occupied the exhibition spaces of the center: the Großer Saal and the Ringgalerie. The result of this obsessive action would have been a kind of full-scale cartographic map of spaces —apparently neutral— that, once intervened upon, would reveal the events etched into their surfaces.
The first of these two interventions would have taken place in the Ringgalerie, prior to its public opening. It would have consisted of a large drawing made by directly applying stick charcoal across the entire hallway that surrounds the main hall of the center. A simple gesture that would, almost magically, reveal the texture of the wall —its very history— while simultaneously drawing a large loop to walk through; a kind of wormhole in which the gaze could wander, circling along the corridor.
The second intervention —a mosaic made with sheets of carbon paper— would have been carried out in the Großer Saal, with the entire execution process visible to the viewer. The installation would have been completed with a scale model of the project and four glass boxes, where the carbon paper sheets already transferred onto the wall would be placed —as a visual and physical memory of that space.
Ultimately, both interventions —independent and complementary at once— would have been reflections of a gaze that dwells on the insignificant, the unnoticed, the minimal. Aspects that, nevertheless, reveal the traces left by the passage of time.
